Getting Started with Datum
Datum connects your Revit session to an AI Copilot that can design, modify, and inspect building models in natural language.
Requirements
- Autodesk Revit 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026
- Windows 10 or later
- Signup to Datum
Download the Plugin
The Datum Revit Plugin must be installed on the same machine running Autodesk Revit. It routes AI-generated commands through a secure cloud relay directly into your Revit session.
Revit MCP Plugin
v4.5.6 · Windows · Revit 2022 – 2025
Installs as a Revit add-in. No copy-paste — commands execute directly inside your open project.
Install the Plugin
Close Revit before running the installer. Then run revit-mcp-plugin-setup-v4.5.6.exe and follow the prompts. The plugin will register itself with your Revit installation automatically.
Restart Revit after installation completes.
Enable in Revit
- 1.Open Autodesk Revit and open any project.
- 2.Click the Add-ins tab in the ribbon.
- 3.Find Revit MCP and toggle it ON.
Connect via Relay Token
Datum uses a secure cloud relay to link your browser session to Revit. Generate a token in the Copilot and paste it into the plugin.
- 1.Open the Datum Copilot.
- 2.Click the Revit button in the top-right toolbar.
- 3.Click Generate relay token.
- 4.Copy the Relay URL and the Pairing token.
- 5.In Revit's Revit MCP plugin, click Settings and paste both values.
- 6.The badge in Datum should change to Plugin connected.

Troubleshooting
Plugin shows "Disconnected" after pasting token
Ensure the Revit MCP toggle is ON in the Add-ins tab, and that your relay token has not expired. Tokens expire after 7 days — regenerate one from the Revit menu in Datum.
I don't see the Add-ins tab
Make sure you ran the installer with Revit closed. Restart Revit and try again.
Commands execute but nothing appears in Revit
Open a Revit project (not just the start screen) before sending commands. The plugin requires an active document.
I get a firewall or network error
The cloud relay communicates over HTTPS on port 443. Ensure your network allows outbound HTTPS traffic.
